Nearly 300 women came out on a bright Saturday to get a firsthand look at NorthBay Healthcare's new Center for Women's Health.
Billed as a "She-View Preview," the grand opening of the center offered a chance for Solano County women to learn about healthcare offerings, meet doctors and medical experts and take advantage of a number of health screenings, all for free.
The day's events featured lectures by three of the doctors who have signed on with the center: OB-GYN Dr. Andrew Lin, family practitioner Dr. Robin Price and internal medicine specialist Dr. Teresa Whitley.
The center is housed in the three-story Gateway Medical Building, which is just across the parking lot from the NorthBay Medical Center. It shares the building with NorthBay's Cancer Center, as well as other medical practices and administrative offices.
"This was fantastic," said one visitor, who explained that she has no insurance, and it gave her a chance to see just how her blood pressure, cholesterol and body mass index measured up. "I visited every booth, I even got a chair massage," she said flashing a thumbs-up sign.
"We're very pleased with the turnout," said Jane Prather, service line director for the center. "It was a great chance to meet some amazing women and show them how we can make their lives a little healthier and easier."
The cholesterol check line was one of the longest, on the third floor, stretching down the hall. The women didn't seem to mind, spending the time chatting, or snacking on healthy refreshments.
"My cholesterol is OK," said one elated woman. "Turns out I'm pretty healthy for my age."
The "She-View Preview" was planned to attract women from 40 and up, but drew younger women as well.
"That's great, they're all welcome to learn about this new approach," said Prather. "We designed it with women in mind. We understand that they're busy, and they're taking care of their entire families. We want to make sure they can do that as efficiently as possible - and still take care of themselves."
