Today we host a designation visit from inspectors from Solano County Emergency Medical Services which will comprise the chief administrator and his team of surveyors. It is the culmination of several years' of preparations and a full-court press that began in February.
When the team is done, we are confident NorthBay Healthcare will have the first designated trauma center in Solano County.
It's hard to describe the effort and count up all the hours that we have spent to prepare to create the first Level 3 trauma center. This is just one more way we are meeting our mission: Compassionate care, advanced medicine, close to home." Our goal is to collaborate with our county partners, EMS agencies and other healthcare affiliates to create a viable, sustainable and successful trauma system for all of Solano County.
A county our size for too long has been without a state-of-the-art trauma center to give citizens injured in Solano County the best possible chance of surviving a traumatic event. This is the realization of the shared vision of NorthBay President and CEO Gary Passama, NorthBay Healthcare Group President Deborah Sugiyama, and Kathy Richerson, our Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer.
This means residents of Solano County now have a better chance of survival if injured in Solano County. We will save precious minutes before precious life-saving resuscitation begins. No longer will seriously injured patients be sent traveling down I-80 and out of the county to receive care.
So how lucky are we all now? Luck occurs when solid preparation meets opportunity, they say. Our trauma team has done the preparation. The County is providing the opportunity. So wish us "luck."
I'll keep you posted. Be well.
