    Flu Vaccine Recall Update

After checking our H1N1 vaccine receiving logs, we have confirmed that NorthBay Healthcare received 130 doses of the vaccine that was recalled by the maunfacturer on Tuesday.

The recalled vaccine only applies to the age group of 6 months to 35 months. There are very, very few individuals affected by the recall.

This poses no health risks and should have little to no effect on immune status as long as these children receive the recommended two doses, according to the FDA and CDC.

The FDA has very strict guidelines that pharmaceutical companies must meet and any deviation in quality or potency will spur a recall. This is not terribly unusual, and remember, it is a non-safety recall. It happened with two lots of the seasonal influenza this year.

The recalled lots have been collected and we will return them to the manufacturer.

Parents: The only action you need to take is to ensure that your child receives two shots (the initial vaccine and the booster).

Please remember: This is a potency issue and poses no health risks to your child, and the recall only applies to children under 3 years old.

Feel free to email me with questions.

    Be well.
