Adult Vaccine Shortage Stalls Clinics

NorthBay Center for Primary Care has suspended its seasonal flu vaccination program due to an unexpected shortage of vaccine. The Center can no longer offer drive-through or walk-in flu shot clinics for adults.

"We are pleased to still be able to offer walk-in flu shots for established pediatric patients who have received the vaccine in the past," noted Shannon Lockrem, who manages the Center for Primary Care's three locations in northern Solano County. "If your child has never had a flu shot, but would like one, they will need to see their doctor for a brief screening prior to receiving the vaccine."

Walk-in flu clinic hours are 9 a.m. to noon. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Center for Primary Care was advised today (Oct. 13) that it may not receive another shipment of vaccine until the end of November. The vaccine shortage is the result of the unprecedented and unexpected demand in the need for H1N1 vaccine, experts say. Labs that normally produce seasonal flu vaccine have switched to producing H1N1 vaccine.
"At this time, we do recommend that you check with local pharmacies to see if they are offering flu shots." Lockrem said.

The Solano County Department of Public Health has said it plans to offer flu clinics within the next few weeks.

"We apologize for this inconvenience that comes beyond our control," Lockrem said.
