With the Napa Valley Tour de Cure just around the corner, Team NorthBay found the perfect tune-up ride. On Saturday we headed East to Yuba City to partake in some riding in Sutter County. This was the 25th annual Bike around the Buttes ride.
Several things about this ride appealed to us. It was mostly flat. Great for a spring training event. The distances offered were perfect. The 17-mile ride is a tune-up for the Napa 25 mile course. And the 40-mile ride is perfect to tune-up for the Napa 50-mile ride. The 100-mile ride is much easier than the Napa Valley 100-mile ride.
You may be aware of a number of serious accidents involving bicycles in recent weeks. Multiple sobering incidents have led to stories in the press, on the web, radio and TV news. The nastiest incident resulted in the death of an elderly pedestrian who was hit by a cyclist who ran a red light in San Francisco.
The thug who ran that light is not a typical cyclist. Nor is he representative of the cycling community. Similarly drivers who sometimes harass cyclists or put them in danger by their behavior are also not typical nor representative of all drivers.
